Priya Ragu

R&B artist Priya Ragu is coming to Hamburg and Berlin in April 2024 with her new album "SANTHOSAM"!

Priya Ragu makes R&B, but at the same time she is unlike any R&B you've heard before. Her debut album "SANTHOSAM" (the Tamil word for happiness) is an outstanding, dynamic album that takes Priya's signature Raguwavy sound - bubbling R&B, masterful pop hooks, soulful vocals, dance beats and the warm tabla rhythms melodies of Tamil music - to even more adventurous heights. Characterized by her infectiously positive spirit, it pulsates with delightfully varied musical textures and urgent political themes. Created in collaboration with her brother and producer Japhna Gold, it is an album born out of Priya's quest for self-discovery.

Ragu grew up in the Swiss city of St. Gallen. Her parents were civil war refugees from Sri Lanka and left the country in the 1980s. Despite their new home, they made sure that Ragu and her brother, producer Japhna Gold, immersed themselves in Tamil culture. Despite Ragu's musical upbringing, her parents did not understand her fiery ambition to pursue music as a career. Considering the Tamil culture, they wanted their daughter to get a good job and then get married.

In 2017, Priya Ragu moved to New York for six months, where she began working on music with her brother, who was still living in Switzerland. The result was Priya's debut mixtape "damnshestamil". Priya's debut album "SANTHOSAM" will be released in October, followed by a tour in April 2024 with stops in Berlin and Hamburg!
