The performative city excursion makes queer history in Munich visible. With the gay guide Anian, participants meet historical figures embodied by three drag artists.
QUEERE WEGE is a collective walk through Munich's Glockenbach district, where queer history is made tangible in public space. For many, the city of millions appears to be a place where queer life can be lived freely, but at the same time its queer past often remains invisible: from the legendary club culture of the 1980s, dazzling personalities of the community and rights that were fought for. From the challenges of the AIDS pandemic and political repression to current developments such as increasing queer hostility and the transformation of queer safe spaces.
Participants follow the gay guide Anian, who leads them to places of queer life, actionism and resistance. The urban space becomes an open archive and stage at the same time. At selected stations, three drag artists embody historical figures and perform with lip sync, spoken word and dance. They bring stories of persecution and solidarity, self-empowerment, friendship and celebration culture to life. Drag becomes a political body in public space.
Between entertainment and knowledge transfer, a collective walk is created that brings the community and interested parties together. QUEERE WEGE invites you to rediscover Munich's queer past, present and future and to preserve the traces of those who have lived, loved, fought and celebrated here.
The cultural project was conceived by Francesco Giordano (he/him), born in 1992, and Anian Halder (he/him), born in 1995. Both live and work in Munich.
Walks on June 12 and 13, 7 p.m. - 9.30 p.m. and on June 14, 11 a.m. - 1.30 p.m.
