QUEERHISTORYMONTH
QueerHistoryMonth will take place in Hamburg from May 1 to 31, 2026(www.queerhistoryhamburg.de). Various events as part of the festival will bring the history(ies) of the queer community in Hamburg to life. Everyone is welcome - kings, queers, queens, allies, friends, families (of choice) and everyone in between and beyond!
The event
MAJOR! tells the moving story of Miss Major Griffin-Gracy - activist, Stonewall veteran and survivor of state violence. For over four decades, she fought tirelessly for the rights of trans women of color and shaped the queer civil rights movement to this day.
Miss Major was a veteran of the Stonewall Riots and a survivor of Attica State Prison, a former sex worker, a senior citizen, and a community leader and human rights activist. To many in her community, she was simply "mom." Her personal history and her commitment to the civil rights of trans people are closely linked to the struggles of the LGBTIQ movement for justice and equality from the 1960s to the present day. At the center of her commitment is her tireless advocacy for her "girls" - trans women of color who have survived police brutality and incarceration in men's prisons.
