What powerful, groundless sentences: "Tonight, when I throw the beast wildly into the sheets, I will play No Future by Bonaparte on Spotify. And inşallah my mind will decay like a wild garden." Ozan Zakariya Keskinkılıç writes sentences like this. They can be found in his first novel "Dog's Son", which tells of Zeko's love for Hassan. A love that takes place three thousand kilometers away from Berlin in the summer in Adana. Anyone who reads the first sentences after those of Franz Kafka and Kurt Tucholsky, which Keskinkılıç prefaces his novel, will fall for this story of love and boundaries, of vulnerability, longing and tenderness in the midst of a torn time and world, just as much as Zeko fell for Hassan. Hassan, the boy next door in Adana, where Zeko spends his summers coming from Berlin. Hassan, whom his Dede calls the son of a dog.
Ozan Zakariya Keskinkılıç is no stranger to poetry. He attracted attention with his poetry collection "Prinzenbad". With his book "Muslimaniac. Die Karriere eines Feindbildes" he took a factual stance in a hardened discourse. With "Hundesohn", he marks a turning point in the tradition of socially charged literature, a literature of poetic furor and reality-saturated melancholy. With his debut novel, Ozan Zakariya Keskinkılıç has created a solitaire from the fatal present for the desperately hopeful present and its literary future. "We kiss our cheeks gently (...) and time does not exist. And no fear, and no anger."
Dominique Haensell, literary scholar, journalist and former co-editor-in-chief of the feminist Missy Magazine, will lead the discussion.
