RAKU-Keramikworkshop
In the organizer's words:
Registration deadline: 22.6.26 ! learn the traditional RAKU technique together with the artist group UMBARO
In this workshop you will learn the basics of the hand-building technique and the traditional raku firing process.
Under expert guidance, you will shape your own ceramic objects from clay step by step. After an appropriate drying time, the pieces are first fired in a kiln.
In the second part of the workshop, the objects are glazed with special Raku glazes and then fired outdoors in a Raku gas kiln. The red-hot pieces are removed from the kiln and reduced in organic material such as sawdust.
The effects of fire and smoke create the craquelé effects and surface structures typical of raku. After cooling and cleaning, you can take your finished unique pieces home with you.
Please bring work clothes that can get dirty and smell of smoke.
Schedule:
- Friday 03.07.26 17:00-20:00 Hand-building of the ceramics
- Friday 17.07.26 17:00-20:00 Making the glazes, setting the kiln
- Friday 24.07.26 17:00-18:00 Glazing the vessels
Firing dates will then be arranged individually 31.07.-02.08. 16:00-19:00 each day
The workshop will be led by the artist group UMBARO from India and will be held in English, but don't worry: the focus here is on practical work. In ceramics, it is above all the hand movements that speak for themselves, and much will be shown step by step.
Please note: We can only hold the course if we receive at least 10 registrations by 22.06.
