Do you feel like getting out and about, but a typical stroll through the city just doesn’t seem like enough? Then here’s a tip for Regensburg: a self-guided treasure hunt on your smartphone—right through the historic center of one of Germany’s oldest cities, from Neupfarrplatz to the Stone Bridge.
You’ll dive into a story: For over 200 years, Regensburg’s most valuable artifact has been considered lost—until now. A casket containing old notes, drawings, and mysterious clues has turned up. It’s believed that the treasure was once hidden by a shrewd individual in a secret location right in the heart of the Old Town, and that the notes serve as coded clues leading to the hiding place. Now it’s your turn: Your task is to decipher the puzzles and clues and track down the treasure worth millions. Are you ready for the challenge?
The treasure hunt takes you right past the city’s most notable sights—but also to hidden, otherwise little-known corners off the usual tourist trails. Highlights include the surprising history of Regensburg Cathedral, hidden clues around the historic town hall, and a finale with a view of the impressive skyline. At each stop, you’ll find fascinating information—just like on a guided city tour—along with puzzles and challenges.
The concept is simple: You book, you’re ready to go right away, and you can start whenever you want—the rally is available around the clock (best played during daylight hours) and is valid for three years. Everything runs through a web app right in your browser—no download needed, and no guide required. All you need to bring are charged smartphones with internet access (only a few MB) and, ideally, a power bank. According to feedback from other players, the difficulty level is moderate, and if something comes up: You can cancel your booking for free up until the start time. If you’d like, you can split into teams and compete against each other with statistics, rankings, and high scores.
