Repair Café

In the organizer's words:

Do you still have that one desk lamp that you actually love but just doesn't want anymore? Or some part that has been lying around broken for ages, even though you finally wanted to start your project? Then come to the Repair Café!

What is it?

It's all about giving your devices a second life, together with volunteer repairers who will help you get things back in shape. You can lend a hand yourself or simply watch and learn.

The team brings plenty of know-how, experience and tools with them. And the chances are good: we usually get two out of three appliances working again. If not, we'll at least give you tips on how to find the fault or get the right spare parts.

When and where?

Every last Saturday of the month in the Central Library.

Important:

  • Please only one device per person so that everyone gets a turn.
  • Unfortunately, we cannot repair large or complex items (e.g. washing machines, fridges, televisions, cars - yes, we've already been asked).
  • Anything that needs high voltage electricity or a water connection is also excluded.

If you are unsure whether your appliance will fit, write to repaircafe@garage-lab.de beforehand. Otherwise you'll just end up standing around and we won't be able to help you.

Another good thing to know:
We don't work strictly in order because it depends on who in the team can repair which device at any given time. So bring some time with you, browse through the library or get something in the café.

The service is free, but we are also happy to receive small donations on site.

Accessibility in the central library:

  • Elevators available
  • Barrier-free WCs
  • No wheelchairs for hire on site
  • Parking garage (24h, chargeable) accessible via Kurfürstenstraße
