RESONANCES

For over five decades, the Landschaftsverband Westfalen-Lippe (LWL) and the Swedish island of Gotland have been linked: Since 1976, Swedish and German artists have been able to spend time working in their respective partner regions through a fellowship program. To mark the 50th anniversary of the Gotland Fellowship, the Künstler*innenhaus Dortmund will host the anniversary exhibition “RESONANCES – 50 Years of Artistic Exchange between Gotland and Westphalia-Lippe,” featuring works by 14 Swedish and German scholarship recipients.

The exhibition brings together 14 artistic perspectives that are deliberately juxtaposed in their diversity of form, content, and medium. On display are works in painting, printmaking, sculpture, and video that do not seek thematic uniformity but rather highlight the individual artistic languages of the scholarship recipients. It is precisely this openness that constitutes the exhibition’s special quality:

“RESONANZEN” is conceived as a polyphonic space where diverse artistic perspectives, working methods, and experiences converge. The works are connected by the experience of relocating, encountering others, and working for a limited time within a different cultural context. “RESONANZEN” makes this exchange tangible as an enduring impulse—as something that does not become homogenized in the works but remains visible in their diversity, and it is precisely in this diversity that its strength unfolds.
