These are uncertain times. No one knows which king will reign tomorrow and who has been overthrown. Richard, Duke of Gloster, does not want to be a pawn in the game. He wants to be the decisive player, the victor over all. Turn by turn, he finally becomes King Richard III - with charm, trickery and intrigue. He is never alone: he is constantly creating new allies - in the play and in the audience. Shakespeare's "Richard III" is both a sharp psychogram and a dark horror play.
