Joachim Ringelnatz is one of the most influential figures in Munich's cabaret and literary history. We cordially invite you to an evening with his poems and prose texts - at the place where his artistic career as a "house poet" began in 1909: in the Alter Simpl restaurant.

About the program

The actor Thomas Loibl will read selected works by the poet. The reading will be complemented by explanations from Reinhard G. Wittmann, chairman of the FORUM HUMOR UND KOMISCHE KUNST association, who will place Ringelnatz's eventful life in the context of Munich's contemporary history.

Background

Joachim Ringelnatz (born Hans Bötticher) was a versatile artist - poet, painter and cabaret artist. After his first successes in the "Simpl", he lived in Munich for a decade from 1920 before he was silenced by the National Socialists' ban on performing in 1933. This reading pays tribute to his lasting legacy in the Bavarian capital.

Note: From July 25, 2026, the Buchheim Museum in Bernried will also be dedicating an exhibition to Joachim Ringelnatz entitled "Es hat sich selbst aus mir gemalt".
