In the last decades of the 19th century, no city exerted such a strong attraction on German artists as Paris. The French capital seems to have finally overtaken the "artists' Mecca of Rome". But this impression is deceptive: the subject of the Terrace Talk is for whom Rome was still at the top of the travel wish list and how stays in Italy are reflected in the works of art created there.
