Concert for Open Monument Day

Welcome to the new season! With its seasonal focus, “Planet Dvořák,” the Jena Philharmonic puts a composer in the spotlight, whose music uniquely embodies a connection to nature and a sense of home. The season-opening concert on Open Monument Day offers a preview of the coming months: Alongside Antonín Dvořák, the program features compositions by his Czech contemporaries Bedřich Smetana and Leoš Janáček. Works by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, William Walton, Sergei Prokofiev, Gustav Mahler, and György Ligeti also offer a glimpse into the stylistic diversity of the new season. Music Director Simon Gaudenz will conduct the concert and, together with Mayor Dr. Thomas Nitzsche and Department Head Johannes Schleußner, through an entertaining afternoon of encounter, new beginnings, and anticipation.
