Salon Narrativ Vol. II: Alice Hasters und Zami Khalil

"We are climate-conscious. We have a culture of remembrance. Freedom and peace are Western virtues. That's what we tell ourselves about ourselves and about the society we live in. But this story isn't quite true, is it? We buy clothes made in sweatshops, we shy away from our family history, and right-wing radicalism and police violence are rampant in our society. Our self-narrative doesn't match reality. So it's no wonder that we're in an identity crisis."

At least that's the blurb for the new novel "Identity Crisis" by author Alice Hasters, the main guest at Salon Narrativ Vol II.

Alice Hasters is an author and journalist. In 2019, she published the longseller "Was weiße Menschen nicht über Rassismus hören wollen, aber wissen sollten" (hanserblau). Her second non-fiction book "Identitätskrise" (hanserblau), published in October 2023, deals with the major (identity) crises of our present day and society. She is working as an editor for "Tagesschau" and "Jetzt mal konkret" (rbb) until 2021 and as a host for "Einhundert - Storys mit Alice Hasters" (Dlf Nova) until 2022. She talks to Maxi Häcke about society, pop culture and politics in the monthly podcast "Feuer&Brot".

In this edition, following a reading, the author will discuss with psychologist Zami K halil how we can move beyond a diagnosis of the current general state of crisis and what it means to face up to it.

Zami K halil works as a clinical psychologist (M.Sc.) in the fields of psychiatry and psychotherapy. He is also active as a speaker in political education work in the fields of racism criticism, racism and mental health as well as empowerment. In this context, he is particularly interested in the (unconscious) transgenerational transmission of experiences of racism, which he examines from a psychoanalytical perspective.

The evening will be accompanied by actresses from the Thalia Ensemble and Mohammed Ghunaim | Ziko, who will be spinning records between the lines.

The Salon Narrativ will feature readings and discussions. There will be new German literature by authors who talk about their experiences and deal with topics ranging from post-migrant literature to experimental poetry, bringing together new perspectives and aesthetics.
