Saltwater Surf Movie Night is back—and in 2026, it’s once again turning
all of Germany into an open-air movie theater. From Hamburg to Munich, from
Berlin to Cologne, the popular outdoor film festival brings the magic of the sea to
where it’s enjoyed most: under the starry sky, with like-minded people, and
the sound of the waves in your ears.
The 2026 festival will feature two extraordinary surf films that transport audiences to
remote coastlines and moving life stories. All screenings
will be shown in the original language with English subtitles

The 2026 Films
Against Gravity
Leon Glatzer—born in Hawaii, raised in Costa Rica, and now living in Germany
—is one of Germany’s best-known professional surfers and was one of
to have competed in the Olympic Games. The 77-minute documentary by
director Matt Pain follows him on a candid look back at his
career: the formative years by the sea, the ups and downs of a career in
professional sports, and the question of what freedom in surfing really means. Not a classic
surf movie—but a personal portrait.

Waves Without Limits – The Spirit of Adaptive Surfing
This film by director Annika Zimmermann explores the world of adaptive
surfing—a branch of the sport in which people with physical
limitations take to the board. The focus is not on
extraordinary as a spectacle, but rather the everyday experience of the ocean:
training, the community, and the sport itself. A matter-of-fact yet
moving look at surfing beyond the professional circuit.
