SANCTUM OF SOUND IS A MUSICAL FORUM FOR LISTENERS OF SACRED SOUNDS.

Curated and produced by the MaHalla team, the Sanctum of Sound takes place every first Sunday of the month and transforms MaHalla into a sanctuary of music and sound for 10 hours. Dedicated to the art of creation and transmission, the Sanctum of Sound offers a space for deep listening and sonic exploration.

The next edition will take place on Sunday, April 6, from 12pm to 10pm, with performances by Yes It's Ananias, Hub Hildenbrand, The Four, Dima Ustinov & Stefano Stereo and Ark Welders Guild.

Dima Ustinov & Stefano Stereo

Dima Ustinov is a composer, improviser and electronic musician. He writes and plays music that can be described as ambient / neoclassical / minimalist. He works with "augmented piano" - a combination of piano, complex effects chains and electronic instruments that can create lush and textured soundscapes. His settings are also part of large light installations. His personal music practice and research lies at the intersection of musical performance, meditative practices and sound healing.

Stefano Stereo is a Berlin-based composer and performer with musical roots in ambient, low-tempo beat and dark electronics, guiding listeners through intricate sonic labyrinths that reflect the complexity of the mind. He is the co-founder of the collective label Amatori, which cultivates a thriving community built on the pillars of knowledge sharing and collaborative spirit.

Hub Hildenbrand

Hildenbrand's music is characterized by the restless nature of a true seeker.

Over the years, his explorations have taken him to many musical places around the world, and he has dedicated himself to mapping the connections between them, but his goal remains: The elusive vanishing point in the realm of the mystical.

In his music, the Berlin musician weaves a broad spectrum of timbres and influences into a completely unique sound language.

He has dedicated himself to studying the sounds of the guitar, Turkish oud, Indian sarod, Afghan rabab, Persian tar and his voice.

He has created his own syllable database language, comprising around 300 unique syllables, from which he composes his "lyrics" according to tonal and associative, pictorial and poetic criteria.

A concert by him is more than just a concert. With his art, Hildenbrand creates a space for a deep, transformative experience. "My music is a prayer"

Ark Welders Guild

Ark Welders Guild is an audio-visual project led by Italian singer and art curator Letizia Trussi and Canadian musician Scott Monteith. Together they create immersive experiences that combine ethereal soundscapes with hypnotic, AI-generated imagery and a grainy road movie aesthetic.

Her debut Mons Clepsydra (2023) is a meditative exploration of the sublime, where beauty and menace intersect.

Letizia Trussi brings her extensive background as a singer and curator to the stage, utilizing experimental loops, effects and AI-generated visuals informed by a retro-futuristic aesthetic and images of arcane origin. She also runs Rooms of Kairos and Gaswerksiedlung, promoting cultural initiatives and multidisciplinary collaborations.

Scott Monteith, best known for his work as Deadbeat, is a cornerstone in the evolution of electronic music. His two-decade career spans dub, minimal techno and cinematic soundscapes, combining visionary productions with a forward-thinking approach to performance and education.

With their stunning visuals and innovative sound, Ark Welders Guild is a major force in audiovisual performance. Their cross-genre approach ensures a profound and lasting impact, making them an essential addition to any innovative program.

Yes It's Ananias

As his trademark "Contemporary Psycho-automatic Piano" suggests, Yes It's Ananias has developed a very unique way of playing the keys and creating a cinematic atmosphere that can be experienced in live performances and on his numerous live albums.

Experiencing a concert by YIA often ends in tears, or they suddenly dry during the change of scene of a movement from one of his compositions, which turn into retrospective improvisations from the studio sessions and back.

The goal of the music for Yes It's Ananias Art: to be touched by the pure emotions that man has to offer the universe, to come and come together to listen and become one.

For each Sanctum of Sound, Music Ashram assembles a 4-piece formation of guest musicians and members of the Ashram. Music Ashram is a brand ensemble of MaHalla, in which the intention of Sanctum of Sound meets the current explorations of the cultural center. Acousmatic sounds, experimental beats, traditions, instruments and global techniques are expressed through the unique essence of Music Ashram.
