SARAH KUTTNER and “Mama & Sam”

About the book:
The daughter stands in her mother’s apartment after her mother’s sudden death. Her mother is gone, and so are all her savings. What remains are questions: Why is the apartment so messy, and the mailbox so full?

And how is it even possible to lose your own mother to a romance scammer?

Sarah Kuttner tells the story of a woman who was looking for love and encountered a romance scammer. Who fell in love and turned a blind eye. Who left nothing behind except a chat history with the scammer. Above all, however, it is the story of a daughter left behind with a void where her mother once was.

So the daughter reads the messages that weren’t meant for her, reads things about herself that she never wanted to know. And yet, very slowly, the void fills with a closeness that was impossible for either of them during her mother’s lifetime. In *Mama & Sam*, Sarah Kuttner depicts an exceptional situation—one that is actually not uncommon at all. She explores the feeling of guilt, the pain of being left behind, and the unwanted intimacy of an estate.
