Sascha im Quadrat

In the organizer's words:

Sascha im Quadrat has been held in the Capitol Mannheim casino since 2012. As has been customary for over a decade, Sascha Kleinophorst, Sascha Krebs, Frank Schäffer and Christof Brill will invite a musical guest once a month in 2026. They will play whatever is fun. Unique cover versions of well-known songs meet incomparable humor.

The series has now achieved cult status - not least because of the ROCKTzuHAUSE streams during the two lockdowns.

Once a month, changing guests and always in a good mood!

February's guest: Moritz Weigel
"Frühe Werke spät vertont" is the name of the new album by Southern Palatinate singer-songwriter Moritz Weigel, which has been available on all major streaming platforms and on vinyl since 2023. Kissed by the muse of Laurel Canyon near Los Angeles, the home of the legendary Eagles, Crosby, Stills and Nash and Jackson Browne, but also trained by local masters of their craft such as Gregor Meyle and Roger Cicero, the 33-year-old singer and guitarist from Rülzheim presents music that not only combines the sun of southern California with the relaxed attitude to life of the Southern Palatinate, but also has its very own story. Most of the eleven songs on the debut album, which is now being released, were written several years ago. "Everything needs a first step, but also a second" is one of them, and Moritz Weigel only took this step in the fall of 2022, when he teamed up with the regionally renowned musicians Philipp Graf and Otto Ritter from the band RockXn' to wake up his music from its slumber in the Project Love studio in Hauenstein. The trio was able to draw on the incomparable twang of Andy Becht on guitar, the laid-back groove of Frank Christmann on drums and the poetry of Chris Herzberger on violin, written with horsehair and ebony. However, in addition to these seasoned instrumentalists, who are also known to audiences beyond the borders of the Palatinate, a number of younger musicians from the regional scene are also involved, with whom Moritz Weigel has been working together musically for many years, including Marian Bellaire on guitar, Jannis Burk, Lisa Rabenstein and Katz Graf on vocals as well as the funky horn players of the Dorfdisco Horns, Melody Jäger on alto saxophone and Boris Keiser on trumpet. The result is an entertaining album, packed with rich choral vocals, singing guitars and authentic Hammond sounds, which moves effortlessly and stylistically confidently between straightforward 70s rock, hearty country and soulful pop, with songs full of warmth, wisdom and joie de vivre that tell of love, friendship, new beginnings and arrivals and are guaranteed to offer the right treat for every ear.

Who are the Saschas?
Sascha Kleinophorst has already been on the road with many rock formations, including appearances as frontman of the Brass Machine throughout Germany and several times at the legendary jazz festival in Montreux. Like his partner in crime Sascha Krebs, he is also a long-standing member of the Capitol Ensemble with a large fan base. The fact that "little Sascha", as Sascha Krebs is also affectionately known, rocks just as much in an intimate setting as he does on the big stages with his band "The Queen Kings" is part of the success of Sascha im Quadrat.
They are congenially accompanied by Frank Schäffer on piano and Christof Brill on guitar! We at Capitol love our boys!
