The struggle of ex-GKN workers from Florence

Closure or conversion? This was the question facing the employees of the former GKN plant (automotive parts supplier) in Florence. From one day to the next, everyone was to be made redundant and the factory closed. But the colleagues are still fighting for their factory and their jobs today. Together with activists from the "Wir fahren Zusammen" campaign, we want to take a look at this struggle and discuss how and whether we can draw lessons from it for our actions as trade unions and the climate movement.

With the conversion tour, we want to support our colleagues from the Collettivo di Fabbrica. On the one hand, by spreading the fight at talks and events and through outreach. On the other hand, we also want to collect pre-orders for the cargo bike that Lars Hirsekorn will be riding on the tour. He is a works council member at VW Braunschweig, a member of the GKN-For-Future cooperative and will give us an insight into the status of the conversion project.
