Schumann Quartett / Simply Quartet
In the organizer's words:
Well combined
In the rather intimate world of chamber music, the string octet is an opulent phenomenon. This large format virtually calls for the fusion of two quartets - which has been particularly successful in this case. Because "one of the most exciting string quartets at the moment" (Fono Forum about the Schumann Quartet) meets a young ensemble whose playing in Hamburg recently "left nothing to be desired in terms of chamber music" (Hamburger Abendblatt about the Simply Quartet). So nothing stands in the way of a great evening! Mendelssohn's string octet is still the measure of all things for this instrumentation. This should come as no surprise to anyone, as the 16-year-old composer penned a work that can hardly be surpassed in terms of light-footed perfection and extroverted brilliance - unless another youthful stroke of genius such as George Enescu's Octet comes along!
