The documentary "Route 4" provides insights into the work of the civilian sea rescue organization Sea-Eye, which was founded in Regensburg in 2015 with the aim of no longer standing idly by and watching people die in the Mediterranean. To this end, a film team accompanied the crews on the rescue ship ALAN KURDI over a period of 15 months. The documentary focuses on the reported experiences and accounts of the people they met on the rescue ship. In order to get an overall picture of the situation of refugees, the footage from the Mediterranean is supplemented by material from Niger, Tunisia, Libya, Italy and Malta.

The film screening will be followed by a discussion with Hanna Becker, a representative of Sea-Eye, Mara Lichtblau, MARKK employee, ethnologist and activist with Sea-Eye, and cultural anthropologist Prof. Dr. Kerstin Poehls. The discussion will address the questions of what role the in-between space in particular and museums in general can play when it comes to making socio-political issues visible, what political responsibility cultural institutions have in the present, when it comes to solidarity and humanitarian aid and what border politics have to do with exhibitions and curatorial practice.

The event will take place in the main lecture hall. The film will be shown in German with English subtitles.
