In the organizer's words:

Sean Scully, born in Dublin in 1945, has developed one of the central positions of geometric abstraction in New York since the 1970s. His compositions, made up of stripes, bars and squares, combine formal rigor with high emotional intensity, which is evident in the dynamic style of the lush application of paint and the exposed, frayed edges.

Scully's painting lends the geometric form a physical and existential dimension. Color and structure become carriers of rhythm, tension and memory and open up the seemingly static order to a sensual spatial experience.

On February 26, Walter Storms Galerie will be showing Sean Scully's second solo exhibition at the gallery, after he marked the opening of the Schellingstraße location with a solo exhibition in 2009. His work has been shown in numerous international retrospectives, including at the Whitechapel Art Gallery, London, the Hirschhorn Museum, Washington, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York, the Kunstmuseum Bern and the Lentos Kunstmuseum, Linz. Sean Scully lives in New York, Barcelona and Mooseurach near Munich.
