She is the grande dame of German-language literature. Last year, she received the Georg Büchner Prize, the country's highest literary award: Ursula Krechel "counters the hardening of the present with the power of her literature", according to the jury, "the theme of self-assertion, rediscovery and further development of female authorship runs as a common thread through her entire oeuvre." This is also the case in her latest novel, in which two women turn to the Minister of Justice. This brilliant literary book is about power and powerlessness, violence and resistance. In her essay "Vom Herzasthma des Exils" (both titles Klett-Cotta), Ursula Krechel addresses the current migration debate with emphatic civil courage. It is a cultural history of flight, persecution and exile and a manifesto for more humanity.
