In the organizer's words:
Siegmund in Richard Wagner's Walküre is a parade role for Jonas Kaufmann, who presents the tragic hero as passionate, radiant and combative in equal measure. Kirill Petrenko, celebrated as a Wagner interpreter at the Bayreuth Festival and elsewhere, conducts the opera's first act at the turn of the year. Its love triangle confronts us with emotional extremes: It is about blood revenge, incest and supreme happiness of love. The program opens with excerpts from Tannhäuser, which compress the solemnity, enthusiasm and shimmering eroticism of the plot.
