Honest, extraordinary, sensitive

"A very honest, extraordinary and sensitive artist." With these words, Martha Argerich, grande dame of the piano, ennobled her colleague Rafał Blechacz, four decades her junior. It has been clear that she hit the nail on the head at least since 2005, when Blechacz not only won all the special prizes at the highly famous Chopin Competition, but also won the main competition - and impressed so much that the jury did not feel able to award a second prize: The young Pole had so towered over the other finalists that some distance seemed necessary. Rafał Blechacz last performed at Heinersdorff in 2019 - so we are delighted to welcome him back to the Tonhalle with Frédéric Chopin's First Piano Concerto. The highly virtuoso masterpiece will be framed by Robert Schumann's Manfred Overture and Antonín Dvořák's Seventh Symphony: a wide-ranging arc through the multifaceted music of the Romantic period.
