Reunions: Joshua Weilerstein and Pierre-Laurent Aimard Perform Music by Beethoven and Shostakovich

American conductor Joshua Weilerstein has already delighted audiences on numerous occasions with spectacular concerts at the Nikolaisaal. The exceptional pianist Pierre-Laurent Aimard has also been a regular guest with the KAP in recent years, creating unforgettable moments with his interpretations of Beethoven’s piano concertos.

The composer’s Third Piano Concerto captivates with its motivic twists—unexpected and richly varied—giving rise to unique sonic spaces. An internally uncompromising musical language is also found in Shostakovich’s Chamber Symphony, whose expressiveness is reminiscent of Beethoven’s style. Anna Thorvaldsdottir’s music evokes deep, complex emotions and forges unexpected connections between the works of the great masters.
