What is the connection between Haydn, Bartók and Dvořák?
All three went abroad and composed the works on our program there: Haydn went to London and celebrated his greatest successes there, Bartók stayed in Switzerland before emigrating to the USA, and Dvořák moved to America with part of his family for three years.
What is special about these pieces written abroad?
It seems as if all three were reminded of their own origins far from home and found a new personal style. Bartók combines various traditions, combining baroque forms with elements of Hungarian folk music. Dvořák interwove rhythms and harmonies that he had learned in America with the musical language of his Czech homeland. After the concert, you can enjoy the Slavic folk music to which our composers refer in the Salon Pitzelberger.
