Singer/Songwriter Night mit Johnethen Fuchs
In the organizer's words:
Singer-Songwriter Night with Johnethen Fuchs at Jolys Live Music Bar
The songwriter founded and performed with the Dresden-based Britrock band “The Smokkings” as early as 2007, where he also gained his first experience in songwriting and lyric writing. In 2013, he finally decided to launch his solo project and form a separate backing band: “Johnethen Fuchs & the Woods.” Since 2014, he has played well over 500 concerts in Germany, Austria, and Switzerland—sometimes as part of extensive solo tours, but also with the full band, for example at various festivals and as a support act for international artists such as Jordan Prince (USA), The Dead Heavys (Ireland), The Bland (Sweden), or Tim McMillan (Australia).
Straddling the genres of folk, pop, and indie, the songs are at times euphoric, at times melancholic. The 2015 debut album “Algeroy” offers a harmonious, at times contemplative listening experience that listeners can happily lose themselves in and let themselves drift away with. Yet the vocals defy the typical boundaries of the genre: rich blues vocals, a delicate, soft falsetto, or a raw, snotty rock voice—the surprisingly versatile singing infuses the often autobiographical songs with passion.
The second album, “Less Is Not Enough,” released in 2018, is more nuanced and features more elaborate arrangements. The title says it all, and so the 13 songs are about enduring longing, not giving up, and striving for more in order to feel alive in every fiber of body and mind.
After production of the third album stalled in 2020 due to the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic, the “Rivertiger EP,” featuring three tracks, was released in 2021.
Following the release of three more singles and music videos, the album “Enlightened Visions” was released in 2022. Both lyrically and compositionally, the British rocker ventures into deeper territory here. In addition to a broader range of musical expression, it is above all vulnerability and a conscious embrace of imperfection that make the artist and his work feel approachable, empathetic, and vibrant. The album’s concept revolves around the feeling of alienation combined with the urge to break free from familiar environments. Various key moments—such as isolation, inner conflict, reflection, and reorientation—are exemplified in the songs. Here, the music aims to provide points of connection and resonance.
JOHNETHEN FUCHS now lives in Switzerland, in the beautiful town of Winterthur in the canton of Zurich, continues to tour the country, and is already writing new song material.
So in 2024, we can look forward to some concerts and perhaps even new song releases.
