In their songs, they explore the boundaries between roots rock, country, and ’60s rock ’n’ roll. From Hamburg to Memphis, from Detroit to Liverpool and back—that’s what the Porthounds call their Northern Shuffle! Well-aged, raw, and unpolished, but served with virtuosity.

STORY:

In 2021, the year of the pandemic, longtime friends Henry Marr and El Rey Uli got together in a home studio to make music despite the lockdown. They quickly wrote many songs with very personal lyrics. Musically, the limitation to two guitars led them back to their shared love of early country and rock ’n’ roll. During the sessions, it became clear that the songs needed a traditional rhythm section, and soon two highly accomplished musicians—Joker and Matthias Friedel—joined the group; both are equally at home in classic rockabilly, jazz, and swing. With this lineup, The Porthounds recorded their debut album independently, and as early as July 2022, “The Porthounds” was released on CD and across all digital platforms.

In 2025, the rhythm section was revamped with Roland König on drums and Huby Jet on bass, and the band is now working together on the songs for their upcoming second album.

Since 2022, The Porthounds have been performing tirelessly, thrilling audiences with their authentic sound and energetic performances. Through sold-out concerts in Germany—including shows with the Go-Getters, Holly Golightly, Smokestack Lightnin’, and Jake La Botz—and a tour through England, Scotland, the Czech Republic, and Slovakia, they’ve built a steadily growing fan base.
