The Sirius Quartet, with its internationally recognized protagonists of contemporary music, combines a stirringly fresh repertoire with unprecedented improvisational fire. The composing performers with university backgrounds shine with precision and pure energy rarely seen on stage. Their progressive approach makes labels like "new music" seem staid.
Since their debut concert at the Knitting Factory in New York, Sirius has performed in some of the world's most prestigious concert halls and has appeared at numerous major festivals, including Lincoln Center in NY, Beijing Music Festival, Musik Triennale Cologne, Stuttgart Jazz Festival, Musique Actuelle in Canada, Taichung Jazz Fest (Taiwan's premier jazz festival) and many others.
In addition to bold original compositions that demonstrate a permanent commitment to musical innovation, the Sirius Quartet's current tour will include arrangements of compositions by the Beatles, Radio Head, Beethoven and Purcell: Extended playing techniques, captivating improvisations and irresistible grooves also come to the fore in the integrated pop songs, finding an equal place in the unique program that will be heard at Westend Vibes.
