This is how everyone does it - Düsseldorf's aquazoo becomes an opera stage for Mozart's "Così fan tutte"

Düsseldorf's most unusual opera experiment continues in the new year!

From January to March 2025, the Komische Oper am Rhein will once again be presenting its production of Mozart's "Così fan tutte" "So machen es alle? Opera in the Aquarium" at Düsseldorf's Aquazoo Löbbecke Museum. Of course, the singers will not be diving in the tank. Instead, the audience is immersed in a unique combination of music and the underwater world.

It is probably Düsseldorf's most unusual opera experience at the moment - loosely based on Mozart's "Così fan tutte". The Aquazoo Löbbecke Museum becomes a stage on which the audience is literally immersed in this free interpretation in which space and music merge.

The Komische Oper am Rhein project is a very special musical experience. Elsa García Tárraga and her team bring a breath of fresh air to the opera scene with this innovative production.

The singers, actors and pianist act in such a way that the audience experiences Mozart's opera up close and moves freely around the space. Seating is provided at certain points.

Mozart's life was riddled with tragedy, but his music celebrates the joy of life. "Così fan tutte " reflects this duality and deals with complex themes such as love and human fragility with humor and depth - here against the impressive backdrop of the Aquazoo.

"We want to bring this powerful message and Mozart's inspiring life's work to a wide audience and create a modern, inclusive opera experience for the 21st century," explains Elsa García Tárraga.

Incidentally, all performances in 2024 were sold out.
