Solidarisch leben: queere und feministische Praxis

In the organizer's words:

Authoritarian and undemocratic policies are on the rise worldwide and anti-feminist positions are also gaining influence. What can be done to counter this? What can solidarity look like today, especially in light of people's different experiences and perspectives?

The event series "Living in solidarity: queer and feminist practice" combines films that make collective life, feminist self-organization and lived solidarity visible with a lecture and discussion with Lea Susemichel on unconditional solidarity. Based on the idea that solidarity is not based on equality, but rather endures and even presupposes differences, the series opens up new perspectives on solidarity-based action, which is particularly necessary in contradictory times.

The series is organized by the Equality and Diversity Office of Johannes Gutenberg University together with the Equality Team of Mainz University of Applied Sciences as well as the Queer* Department of Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz and the Muschelkino / FILMZ e.V. as further cooperation partners.

20.05.2026 | Lecture & Discussion: Unconditional Solidarity

We look forward to your registration for the lecture at https://forms.gle/RXFtnMCvrmJeFKoW9, but participation is also possible without registration.

Right-wing and authoritarian policies are increasingly shaping social debates. What can be done to counter this? And can solidarity succeed despite different experiences and perspectives?

The lecture understands solidarity as necessarily conflictual and at the same time unconditional: it does not presuppose shared identities, but rather thrives on difference and dissonance and gains political relevance precisely because of this.

Lea Susemichel is a philosopher, journalist and editor of the feminist magazine an.schläge.
