A visually stunning documentary that was awarded the Queer Lion in Venice.
The vast deserts of La Guajira in northern Colombia. An old woman appears and goes her way. We meet Georgina Epiayu, seemingly with a clear goal in mind. She would like to finally have her identity rectified, even bureaucratically. Georgina lives in the desert, almost as one, but there are a few other Wayuu women in the neighborhood. Contact with her brothers was a long time ago, old wounds have not healed. A poetic and hopeful film. But also highly political, because it is about one's own rights as a trans person as part of one of the most oppressed indigenous population groups in South America.
Filmmaker Mónica Taboada-Tapia studied anthropology and film and television production. For this documentary, the director accompanied her protagonist for eight years and created a very intimate portrait.
