Duos Duet & Roshanak Rafani

Concert, talk, DJ set

Sound Base Berlin focuses on the diversity of scenes and communities that shape the Berlin music landscape, often through queer, migrant and diasporic perspectives. Each evening of the series combines live performances with talks and DJ sets. The concerts form the starting point for insights into the artistic development and working methods of the participants. Music appears not only as an aesthetic form, but also as a social practice in which questions of belonging and coexistence are negotiated.

Concert: Duos Duet & Roshanak Rafani
Duos Duet was created in Tehran in 2017 as a project by classically trained musicians Golsana Shenasaei and Niki Yaghmaee. In addition to their work in classical and contemporary music ensembles, they created a platform for their own compositional experiments and improvisation. In addition to Shenasaei's cello and Yaghmaee's violin and viola, they use loops and electronic sound processing without losing touch with classical music and Iranian influences. In their concert performances and interdisciplinary projects, Duos Duet deal with themes such as memory, identity and belonging. For Sound Base Berlin, Shenasaei and Yaghmaee are collaborating with percussionist Roshanak Rafani, who moves between traditional Iranian music, classical practice and contemporary formats. Rafani combines different influences to create a sound language that is as multi-layered as it is independent.
