At the invitation of the Frankfurt Jazz Initiative, the Frankfurt jazz scene pays tribute to the pianist, composer and educator Christoph Spendel, who died in November 2025, one of Germany's most influential musicians, whose cross-style work has inspired generations of artists.

Born in 1955, Christoph Spendel stood like no other for the combination of jazz, classical music, Latin and fusion - always virtuoso, passionate and curious. His artistic work has spanned more than five decades, numerous international collaborations and countless stage moments. As a professor of jazz piano at the HfMDK Frankfurt, he also spent two decades shaping young talent and providing inspiration far beyond the city limits.

The Christoph Spendel Group will be playing with Jan Beiling (saxophone), Alisa Pou Montz (bass), Stefan Schulze-Anker (drums) and Tom Schlüter, who will take Christoph's place on the piano.

In addition to the band, numerous musical guests, long-time companions and colleagues are expected to commemorate Spendel's artistic legacy with their own contributions. The concert is not just a farewell, but a tribute and devotion to a musician who crossed boundaries, built bridges and impressed with his warm-heartedness as much as his virtuosity.
