On October 18, 2024, the children's rights organization Plan International is holding a day of action in Munich's Olympic Park as part of the "Champions of Change" sports days. Children aged 8 to 12 are cordially invited to join Plan ambassador and track and field athlete Christina Hering and Plan ambassador and former national handball player Dominik Klein to get a taste of various sports from 4 pm to 7 pm. The event offers space for up to 60 children and participation is free of charge. Registration takes place online at www.plan.de/sport-tage.

The "Champions of Change" sports day is closely linked to Plan International's commitment to equality. The name is inspired by Plan International's long-standing global "Champions of Change" program, which brings girls and boys together in Plan International's partner countries to raise awareness of the importance of gender equality and empower them to work together to achieve this goal. Sport often plays a central role in this, as it promotes team spirit, self-confidence and mutual respect. The day of action in Munich takes place shortly after World Girls' Day (October 11), a UN day of action launched on the initiative of Plan International. This day commemorates the rights of girls and draws attention to existing inequalities. The "Champions of Change" Sports Day addresses these issues and campaigns for girls and boys to stand up together for a fairer world.

Christina Hering: "When children play sport, I realize how much joy can arise. That's why I want to give children the opportunity to get a taste of my sport with the 'Champions of Change' sports day. Athletics has given me a lot myself, so now I want to give something back."

Dominik Klein: "According to the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child, girls and boys have the same rights, but not always the same opportunities. That's why I'm using the 'Champions of Change' sports day to promote the shared fun of handball and equal opportunities for all children."
