In a purist film language and stage-like tableaux, sr tells of people and the realities they create. 16 fragmentary episodes in 91 shots take us to 30 locations - including an island in the Western Pacific, a reading room in New York, a ceramics factory near Beijing and an airstrip in Niger.
The film encounters assumptions, assertions and the relativity of knowledge, colonial relics, hegemonic structures, appropriation and the treatment of exoticism. A recurring motif, the giraffe, appears sometimes directly, sometimes in the margins. A complexity emerges in which far more is hinted at than what is visible at first glance.
