THE SCHEDEL CHRONICLE
Under the motto “StabiLiebling,” the Bavarian State Library opens its vaults and presents a masterpiece from its collections in itstreasure chamberon two days each month.
Hartmann Schedel’s chronicle, published in Nuremberg in 1493, offers a fascinating glimpse into the worldview of its time. The work combines biblical traditions, historical events, and geographical knowledge into a comprehensive overview. The numerous illustrations—many of which are the oldest authentic depictions of cities—make the chronicle a masterpiece of early book art to this day.
Be inspired by centuries-old cultural treasures in their original form—behind glass, yet up close: A special artistic experience and interesting facts about the “StabiLiebling” await you.
Freeintroductory talks onboth days at 11 a.m., 1 p.m., and 5 p.m. (no registration required; meet at the Fürstensaal on the 1st floor)
