On a chronological journey through time, from the city’s founding to the present day, we discover the people, places, and events that have shaped Münster—we’ll visit the Friedenssaal (except on Mondays and holidays) and get an exclusive look behind Münster’s facades (except Sundays and holidays).

CHRONOLOGICAL JOURNEY THROUGH TIME
Unlike traditional city tours, we take a chronological journey through the city’s history—from the founding of the monastery through the Anabaptist era and the Peace of Westphalia to today’s city of art, culture, and crime fiction.

OVERVIEW OF THE OLD TOWN
We wander through the Old Town and discover why the Prinzipalmarkt nestles against Domplatz, how merchants created an all-weather shopping street, where the nobility established their Baroque enclave, and how the Überwasserviertel got its name.

MUNSTER RESIDENTS
We’ll meet some remarkable figures: the missionary Liudger, King Jan with his many wives, star architect Johann Conrad Schlaun, and the tower keeper in her office—the highest in the city.

EUROPEAN HISTORY IN THE PEACE HALL
In the Historic City Hall, we enter one of Münster’s most significant sites: the Peace Hall. Here, we immerse ourselves in the negotiations leading to the Peace of Westphalia in 1648. Admission is included in the ticket price. The Peace Hall is closed on Mondays and holidays and is therefore, unfortunately, not part of the tour.

EXCLUSIVE: A GLIMPSE BEHIND MÜNSTER’S GABLE
From the rooftop terrace of the Schnitzler fashion store, we look out over the city center between Domplatz and Prinzipalmarkt—a view that even many Münster residents never get to see. Schnitzler is closed on Sundays and holidays and is therefore unfortunately not part of the tour.
