On a chronological journey through time, we discover the people and places that have shaped Münster—and experience the Old Town from a perspective that remains hidden even to many Münster residents.
CHRONOLOGICAL JOURNEY THROUGH TIME
Unlike traditional city tours, we take you on a chronological journey through the city’s history: from the founding of the monastery through the dramatic Anabaptist era and the Peace of Westphalia to today’s city of art, culture, and crime fiction.
OVERVIEW OF THE OLD TOWN
Along the way, we’ll wander through the Old Town’s neighborhoods and discover why the Prinzipalmarkt nestles against Domplatz, how merchants created a unique all-weather shopping street, where the nobility established their Baroque enclave, and how the Überwasserviertel got its name.
MÜNSTER RESIDENTS
Along the way, we’ll encounter remarkable figures: the missionary Liudger, King Jan with his many wives, the star architect Johann Conrad Schlaun, and the tower keeper in her office—the highest in the city.
EXCLUSIVE: ABOVE THE ROOFS OF THE OLD TOWN
A special highlight of the tour is access to a place that’s otherwise hidden: From the rooftop terrace of the Schnitzler fashion house, we look out over the city center between Domplatz and Prinzipalmarkt—a view that even many Münster residents never get to see.
WITH MAPS, PHOTOS, AND HISTORICAL SOURCES
We supplement the tour with old city views, maps, photographs, and portraits that show you what Münster used to look like and which people shaped the city.
