Stefan Hertmans. Dius.(Diogenes).
Author reading and discussion in the series: Literature of Neighbors.
Anton is surprised and irritated: Dius rings his doorbell. None of his students at the art academy has ever intruded so freely into his private life. Or even offered him his friendship and a place to write in an old village house in the middle of a rugged Nordic landscape. Alternating between concentrated work and long walks, an almost old-fashioned bond of friendship develops between the two men there, while their respective lives at home continue to turn, not without complications. Translated from the Dutch by Ira Wilhelm.
Stefan Hertmans (born 1951 in Ghent) is considered one of the most important contemporary Dutch writers. He has published several works of prose, over a dozen volumes of poetry, various collections of essays on literary criticism, cultural history and philosophy as well as a series of plays. Hertmans lives near Brussels.
