Steffani Jemison "Augur" im Westfälischen Kunstverein

In the organizer's words:

Steffani Jemison –“Augur”at the Westfälischer Kunstverein in Münster

Starting June 27, 2026, the Westfälischer Kunstverein will present the first institutional solo exhibition in Germany by the American artist Steffani Jemison. With*Augur*, the Kunstverein in Münster presents a work that explores urban governance, Black experience, and the coding of spaces.

Jemison works across media—including performance, video, music, and installation—drawing on Black everyday life and linguistic cultures. Central to her practice is her interest in “hostile architecture”—invisible structures that direct movement, exclude certain bodies, and reveal power dynamics. Her works reveal spaces as historically charged, simultaneously inducing disorientation and exerting control. The recurring motif of flight oscillates between freedom and limitation, emancipation and constraint.

The exhibition*Augur*runs from June 27 to September 20, 2026, at the Westfälischer Kunstverein (Rothenburg 30, Münster). In addition, there will be a lecture (“Münster Lecture”) by Steffani Jemison on June 24, 2026, at 6:00 p.m. at the Münster Academy of Fine Arts in collaboration with the Westfälischer Kunstverein.
