Colorful forest festival around the Steinhaus forest information center
On July 5, the Bergisches Land Regional Forestry Office invites you to listen to exciting forest stories, take part in a guided tour through the forest or take part in the creative program around the Steinhaus.

It's finally time again - after a two-year break, a big forest festival will take place on Sunday, July 5, 2026, at the Steinhaus forest information center. From 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., visitors will have the opportunity to discover new things and learn more about the fascinating diversity of forests at numerous activities and information stands.
A varied program for the whole family
The program includes forester and ranger hikes, paper-making and T-shirt printing with a tree disc, an information stand about bees and their honey and an information stand about mushrooms. Various hands-on activities such as crafts and handicrafts are also planned especially for children. The district hunters' popular forest school on wheels will also be in action.
Introducing the forest education work at the Steinhaus
How do we get in touch with the forest? How do we work at the Steinhaus with children, young people and adults in and around the forest? How do we feel in the forest and how is the forest doing?
These and many other questions are answered by the experts on the forest excursions organized by the Landesbetrieb Wald und Holz NRW.
"With our Steinhaus Festival, we want to introduce visitors to our forest education work, show the diversity of the forest and also explain the importance of the forest for our lives," says organizer Martin Müller, forester at Wald und Holz NRW, describing the aim of the event. To this end, the foresters and other forest experts will take all interested parties on their exciting discovery tours in the Königsforst.
There will also be plenty of culinary delights; there will be game sausages from the grill and coffee and cake in the popular Waldcafé Steinhaus.
Bus routes 421 and 454 stop at "Bergisch Gladbach Technologie-Park". From there, you can reach the Steinhaus via the highway bridge in around 500 m on foot.
A large bicycle parking lot is available at Forsthaus Steinhaus.
Parking spaces for cars are signposted. Please use the visitor parking lots of the Bergisch Gladbach Technology Park and the Miltenyi company opposite the Technology Park (west of Friedrich-Ebert-Str.).
Brief portrait of Steinhaus
As one of four visitor portals, the Steinhaus visitor center is an important gateway to the Wahner Heide and Königsforst. The former forester's lodge with its interesting history was opened to the public in June 2011. In summer 2020, the Steinhaus was recognized as a certified institution for education for sustainable development (ESD). Against this background, the Steinhaus is a forest education center with tailor-made offers from daycare to adult education. An interactive permanent exhibition under the motto "Nature uses - resource" provides information about the nature reserve and the importance of nature for people.

About Wald und Holz NRW
The North Rhine-Westphalia Forest and Wood Agency is part of the State Forestry Administration. With its 15 regional forestry offices, Wald und Holz NRW is represented throughout the state. Wald und Holz NRW looks after the interests of the forest, which at around 950,000 hectares accounts for 28 percent of the state's total area. This includes the preservation and promotion of the forest in NRW, advice and support for private and municipal forest ownership, management of 128,000 hectares of state-owned forest land and research in the areas of forest, wood use and climate.
