Frankfurt-based saxophonist Gernot Dechert is known for his top-notch soul jazz, steeped in soul, blues, and groove. He currently performs with his project SUPER GROOVE, which often features guest appearances by fellow artists.

Jazz or no jazz—that’s not a question a musician asks himself when the only relevant criterion for his music is absolute authenticity. When blues, rhythm & blues, electronic beats, soul, and funk flow into one’s own definition of jazz, that’s just the way it is for a free spirit like the Frankfurt-based saxophonist Gernot Dechert.
For his new project, Gernot Dechert SUPER GROOVE, he follows his intuition. The motto is “body jazz,” not “head jazz.” Highly complex compositions are performed with ease and nonchalance, in a non-academic style. On stage, even a glittery jacket is allowed. And “entertainment” is by no means a dirty word. With SUPER GROOVE, the sophisticated elements are packaged in such a way that the music always remains accessible. This is achieved through a great deal of spontaneity in the arrangements, as well as improvisation and interaction within a wordless narrative.
