The diverse world of succulents - special exhibition in German, Italian & English

Spiny, ribbed, hairy, water-storing, fat, thick-fleshed, spherical, flat, columnar - these are all characteristics that can apply to succulents.
The best known of these include cacti, agaves, aloes and houseworts. They have all developed amazing strategies to survive long periods of drought, heat or even cold.

"Succu... what?" shows the incredible diversity and fascinating survival strategies of succulents. The exhibition also presents some succulent useful plants that provide us with popular fruits, healing substances or stable fibers.

What exactly are succulents?

Succulents are plants that can store water in their tissue for a long period of time. This strategy enables them to survive even in very dry areas. Their name comes from the Latin word "suculentus" (= succulent), which is why they are also known as "sap plants".
