Between the veil and self-determination - a special reading from the perspective of Muslim women to accompany the special exhibition "LOVE."

The "Oriental woman" from the distant Orient once sparked the erotic fantasies of Western readers. Inspired by stories of the harem and tales from the Arabian Nights, she was regarded as glowing-eyed, sensual and mysterious. Even the veil aroused intense desires. Today, however, women from this culture are often ascribed the image of a repressed, joyless and poorly integrated "birthing machine".

On Tuesday, January 27, from 7 p.m., the audience at Universum Bremen will experience an amusing reality check: in the brilliant stage show "Let's talk about Sex, Fatma!" by Fatma Express Theater, the audience will listen to excerpts from hilarious letters and anecdotes from migrant women - spiced up with original musical accompaniment. The actors Saher Khanaqa-Kükelhahn, Yasemin Noll and Sema Mutlu know these topics from their own experience. Under the direction of Anke Thiessen, they create a satirical-political comedy about migration with a mix of reading, acting and singing.

Thanks to the biographical nature of the program, which has been on tour since 2023, they offer realistic insights that otherwise remain hidden to many. In this way, the performance helps to break down prejudices about sexuality, religion and migration - and entertains brilliantly in the process.

The staged reading lasts around 100 minutes including an interval. Admission is 12 euros, concessions 8 euros, and also includes a visit to the special exhibition between 6.00 and 7.00 pm. Reservations are required on 0421 / 33 46 166 or in the online store at store.universum-bremen.de.
