The Schwemme - "LEHM-BAU-KULTUR", renovation, Halle (Saale)
Tour: Saturday, June 27, 2026, 2:00 to 6:00 pm; guided tours: 2:30 and 4:30 pm
At the same time, the exhibition "Palimpsest" by artist Caroline Cramer can be visited in the barn.
The Schwemme brewery is one of the most important surviving examples of the historic Klaustorvorstadt district in Halle (Saale). The half-timbered building is an inspiring place of extraordinary charisma due to its high heritage value, its structural layout and its central location on the river. Even after more than 300 years of history, the original three-part division of the building into storage, drying and brewery as well as for residential purposes is still clearly visible on the façade. After a long period of vacancy, fire and neglect, the Schwemme e. V. association took on the property in 2016 and has since been gradually renovating it in line with its listed status. The single-storey "Schwemme Box" is attached to the historic half-timbered house. As part of a grant from the New European Bauhaus (NEB), an open space for education, crafts and community around the topic of building with clay has been created in the Schwemme since spring 2025.
