Day of the open monument
Guided tour of the hospital grounds with Hedwig Thelen
In keeping with the motto "Networks: Monuments & Infrastructure", the Hospital Museum uses the example of psychiatry to show how closely medical care was integrated into social and institutional networks.
The former St. Jürgen Asylum (now Klinikum Bremen-Ost) was opened in 1904 and was planned as a rural "colonial asylum" with a pavilion system and agricultural use. 09_12_It was an independently networked care system and yet closely linked to the city of Bremen. The architecture of the pavilion complex also makes these functionally and scenically networked concepts visible to this day. This makes the museum itself an "infrastructure monument" that illustrates the development of medical networks.
