In this participatory performance, artist Ülkü Süngün teaches interested participants the correct pronunciation of the names of the ten NSU murder victims. In the act of repetitively pronouncing the ten names, memory and recognition resonate. The more participants join in, the louder the 'chorus of those speaking and remembering' becomes. The result is a temporary memorial to Enver Şimsek, Abdurrahim Özüdogru, Süleyman Tasköprü,Habil Kılıç, Mehmet Turgut, Ismail Yasar, Theodoros Boulgarides, Mehmet Kubasık, Halit Yozgat and Michèle Kiesewetter.
Ülkü Süngün developed her performance from an activist context and sees it as a reflection on practices of remembrance culture in public space. Who is publicly remembered, who is memorialized and who is not? How can memory express itself in language? And what does the respective moment of remembrance mean for each and every one of us?
Participation free of charge. No registration necessary.
The performance will take place at the Munich Documentation Center for the History of National Socialism. Meeting point is the 1st floor.
