Take Your Type: A Pop-Up Event Centered on Type

What happens when a Munich-based studio specializing in typeface and brand design takes its own typeface, Bang Sans, out of the digital realm and brings it into the heart of the city as physical letter objects? For two weeks, from August 18 to 29, the design studio Just Your Type will transform the Ruffinihaus into a playful experimental space centered on type, typography, and design.

The exhibition features typefaces you can touch and experience firsthand: giant illuminated letters, oversized hand-lettering in a storefront window, a 1-meter-tall, hand-welded metal letter, a homemade wheel of fortune, and a giant ampersand disco ball.

We encounter fonts and typography everywhere—often without even thinking about it. Yet the choice of a font alone can determine how a sign, a magazine article, or a brand is perceived. In their pop-up, Just Your Type offers a glimpse into the day-to-day life of a design studio and shows just how much character and brand recognition can be found in letters.

But above all: Take Your Type!

The pop-up is a place to experiment, get hands-on, and exchange ideas. Visitors can get creative on the spot and design their own letters. In the Small Letters Workshop, participants can turn their own initial into personalized accessories—such as earrings, pendants, or magnetic letters—in about 15 minutes. Perfect as a spontaneous gift or souvenir.

Those who prefer something bigger can also customize 33-centimeter-tall letters with water-based paints in the Big Letter Workshop. This is also suitable for children ages 5 and up when accompanied by an adult. On Disco Thursday, we’ll work together to make our favorite letters sparkle with real glass mosaic tiles (adults only). All letters (A–Z, &, ♥) were specially crafted for the pop-up and are available in very limited quantities.

At the free participatory wall, grab a pair of scissors, find your own shapes, cut out letters, and put words together and rearrange them. Over the course of two weeks, the wall will grow with everyone who stops by. Children are also welcome when accompanied by their parents.

The pop-up opens on Tuesday, August 18, 2026, at 6 p.m.with an opening party. RivieraBert will provide the music, and of course there will be a giant “Disco & Draw” sign and illuminated letters. Amid oversized letter objects, lounge chairs, and a wheel of fortune, you can explore typography in a relaxed and playful way.
