“Touch” is a participatory exhibition that explores unconscious perception, perceptual processes, and the blind spots in our attention. At its core is the question of how we perceive reality—and how new perspectives can be opened up when we sharpen our senses in unfamiliar ways. The exhibition is conceived as an open, constantly evolving format that continues to develop throughout its run. Visitors are invited not only to observe but also to actively participate in shaping the exhibition: In two workshops with BLINC, participants’ senses and communication skills will be challenged. How do we give clear instructions? How do we describe things precisely when visual cues are missing? You’ll also gain insights and learn facts about blindness and visual impairment, as the workshop leaders, Samu and Marit—who are themselves severely visually impaired—are happy to answer any questions you may have about visual impairment and engage in a shared exchange while participants create tactile works using clay and modeling dough. During the exhibition, in addition to works by students from the Martin-Bartels-Schule, audio tours of the exhibits by artist Andrea Wolf (kaethe:k Kunsthaus), and in workshops led by the artist herself, participants will create a new work of art through tactile work with materials and surfaces—a piece that will gradually expand and transform the exhibition. In this way, the exhibition space becomes a living collaborative work—a growing installation that thrives on encounters and the shifts in perspective fostered in the workshops.
The exhibition is complemented by an audio tour and designed to be more accessible.
